Fire Safe South Carolina announced this week the departments designated as a Fire Safe community.
207 departments across the state were named in the Fire Safe South Carolina press release. The program aims to reduce fire-related injuries—decreasing the risks for residents and firefighters alike—and promote consistent fire safety messaging and stress the importance of accurate fire scene data. Fire Safe South Carolina was launched in 2017 in a partnership between the Firefighters' Association, South Carolina State Association of Fire Chiefs, South Carolina Fire Marshal Association, South Carolina Chapter of the International Association of Fire Investigators, and South Carolina State Fire.
The 207 fire departments receiving the community designation represent a nearly 35 percent increase from the previous year.
“As a result of the hard work, commitment, and dedication of these departments and their community partners, more than one million citizens were educated on ways to stay 'Fire Safe,'" Community Risk Reduction Chief Josh Fulbright said in the announcement. “Efforts will not stop there. We will continue to work together to educate even more citizens and implement other risk reduction practices proactively to get ahead of calls for service in South Carolina.”
Fire Safe South Carolina departments will be recognized during a ceremony at Fire-Rescue on Friday, June 13 at 3:30 p.m.
