A message from the President: Escorts needed for Legislative Day

Our annual Fire Service Legislative Day is next week on Wednesday, March 26, at 10 a.m. on the grounds of the South Carolina State House and we need you there.

As President of the Association, I’ve seen first-hand how important it is that we each build strong relationships with our representatives. The trust you build with your legislators at home by inviting them to department awards ceremonies or just for coffee at the firehouse helps us when we need support at the State House for things like the Firefighter Cancer Health Care Benefit Plan, Urban Search and Rescue funding, and the Volunteer Incentive Program, to name a few. These relationships are invaluable and necessary in order for the South Carolina fire service to progress; none of what we accomplish on behalf of South Carolina firefighters would be possible without your relationships with legislators.

As we look forward to next week, I ask you to use Legislative Day as a time for you to meet with your representatives and talk with them about legislation that is impacting the fire service. You will have time to chat during the walk from the State House to the luncheon area and during lunch as well.

I encourage you to capitalize on the opportunity for your representatives to see the showing of support from the state’s fire service on Legislative Day. We’re stronger together, and our collective voice is powerful. Let’s not allow this opportunity to slip us by.
