Born in January, 1977, he is the son of Retired Fire Chief Carter H. Jones and Mary Jo Jones of Manning, SC. He is married to Denise Jones and has one son, Cooper, and one daughter, Mary Louise.

Jonathan grew up in the fire service and in the S.C. State Firefighters’ Association, his father being a retired Fire Chief of the Clarendon County Fire Department and a Past President of the Association. He began his formal fire service career as a volunteer with the Clarendon County Fire Department. During college, he worked as a part-time Firefighter for the City of Manning Fire Department and as an EMT for a private ambulance service.

After graduating from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Jonathan accepted a position with the South Lynches Fire Department as their Personnel Coordinator/Training Officer. In 2002, he was offered and accepted the position of Training Officer with the Clarendon County Fire Department. Jonathan was promoted to Battalion Chief in July of 2007.

Jonathan is an active member of Clarendon Baptist Church in Alcolu, SC. He has served as President of the Pee Dee Firefighters’ Association and is an Adjunct Instructor with the South Carolina Fire Academy. He was the recipient of the Clarendon County Fire Department’s Officer of the Year Award in 2005, the Jefferson Davis Medal of Valor in 2004, and a joint recipient of the S.C. State Firefighters’ Association’s Meritorious Action Award in 1997.

His hobbies include SCUBA diving, backpacking, camping, playing guitar, and college football.
